Delcy Rodríguez, a longtime ally of Nicolás Maduro and veteran Chavista politician, has served as Venezuela's vice president since 2018.
Following the US capture of Maduro on January 3, 2026, Venezuela’s Supreme Court (Constitutional Chamber) invoked constitutional provisions—specifically Article 233—and ordered her to assume the role of acting president to ensure continuity; she was formally sworn in on January 5, 2026, becoming the first woman to exercise presidential powers in the country’s history.
She has held key prior roles, including foreign minister, president of the Constituent Assembly, minister of petroleum, and others under Chávez and Maduro governments.
