The 30x113mm artillery system will make a significant contribution to the firepower of various Turkish platforms, from manned/unmanned ground vehicles to helicopters and unmanned combat aerial vehicles.

The gun was developed by the Turkish company CANiK together with the British AEI Systems. CANiK recently acquired AEI Systems, thus gaining the ability to produce medium-caliber guns.

According to Anadolu, CANiK will present the capabilities of the system it has developed at the 16th International Defence Industry Exhibition (IDEF 2023), which will be held in Istanbul on July 25-28.

It is expected that the 30x113mm VENOM LR gun will play a significant role in meeting the needs of friendly and allied countries, mainly the Turkish Armed Forces.

There is an increasing need for quick-firing guns with low recoil on the battlefields.

The 30×113 mm automatic artillery systems, which were previously perceived as a special solution only for fixed and rotary wing combat aircraft platforms, have come to be seen as weapons of the near future for manned and unmanned ground, sea, and air vehicles.

The VENOM LR, in particular, is being considered to meet such needs due to its 30×113 caliber ammunition, lightweight and low recoil.

Speaking to Anadolu, CANiK CEO Cahit Utku Aral said the acquisition of AEI Systems is the first example of a Turkish investor investing in a licensed defence company in the UK.

AEI Systems is the company that makes 65-year-old Aden-type drum guns and British versions of Oerlikon guns, he says. “AEI Systems is the second company in the UK producing these products after BAE Systems,” Aral said.
