Western Azerbaijan Community calls on Armenia to abandon its policy of a mono-ethnic state
"As a result of ethnic cleansing against Azerbaijanis, the outbreak of conflict with Azerbaijan and the policy of self-isolation, Armenia is facing a serious demographic crisis. Recently, Armenia presented its demographic strategy for 2023-2040 at a regional conference on demography in Geneva," says the statement by the Western Azerbaijan Community.
"This strategy once again proves the racist policy of the Armenian government based on ethnic discrimination. Thus, the strategy does not address the issue of the return of Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia. In the document, repatriation as a right and a goal that the state should promote refers only to ethnic Armenians. The fact that a country facing a serious demographic crisis does not allow legal residents to return to their homes because of their ethnicity is an indicator of its racist policy," the statement reads, Caliber.Az reports.
"The solution to Armenia's demographic problem lies through establishing peace in the region and ensuring the right of return for the exiled Azerbaijanis. The community calls on the Armenian government to choose peace, abandon the policy of a mono-ethnic state, and ensure the safe and dignified return of Azerbaijanis," the community said.
