White House: Trump ends funding for conflict in Ukraine
The United States has halted financing of the conflict in Ukraine by decision of President Donald Trump, though Washington continues to sell weapons through NATO channels, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt announced.
She told reporters that Secretary of State Marco Rubio and special envoy Steve Witkoff were in Geneva yesterday, November 24, where they were able to thoroughly review the 28-point peace plan proposed by the United States with input from both the Russian and Ukrainian sides, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Leavitt noted that the two officials had managed to polish the details of the plan and said the teams were now working through only a few remaining disagreements. She also conveyed that President Donald Trump remained confident that a compromise could be reached.
According to Leavitt, the president’s priority is to end the hostilities, and she pointed out that although the United States continues to supply or sell significant quantities of weapons to NATO, Washington cannot sustain this indefinitely.
She added that Trump considers himself a leader focused on peace and continues to believe that bringing the war to an end is achievable.
Leavitt stressed that the United States hopes to secure Russia’s approval for the peace plan.
She underlined that Washington sees itself in a strong negotiating position but must ensure that every point is fully coordinated.
She also remarked that the US still needs Moscow, as the opposing party in the conflict, to agree before any next steps are taken.
Earlier, President Donald Trump stated that the current peace proposal for Ukraine is not a final offer, emphasising that Washington’s priority is to achieve peace.
