World leaders mark Azerbaijan’s Independence Day with warm messages to President Aliyev
As Azerbaijan celebrates its 107th Independence Day, President Ilham Aliyev has received a wave of congratulatory messages from global leaders, each recognising the country’s achievements and expressing hope for stronger ties ahead.
From the north, Finland’s President Alexander Stubb conveyed a brief yet heartfelt message to mark a significant occasion, Caliber.Az reports.
In his message, Stubb stated:
"On behalf of the people of Finland and myself, I wish to extend my sincere congratulations and best wishes to you and to the people of Azerbaijan on the occasion of the 107th Independence Day of Azerbaijan."
He wrapped up with a respectful note:
"Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurance of my highest consideration."
Further east, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov took a more personal tone, addressing Aliyev directly as “Dear Ilham Heydarovich” and celebrating Azerbaijan’s steady rise:
"It is gratifying that independent Azerbaijan has achieved significant success and, effectively addressing both domestic and foreign issues, today holds a prominent position and enjoys great authority on the international stage."
He praised the close ties between the two countries, calling their relationship one of “brotherhood and strategic partnership,” and added:
"I am deeply convinced that cooperation between our countries will continue to grow successfully for the benefit of our two brotherly peoples."
From Europe’s Adriatic coast, Croatia’s Prime Minister Andrej Plenković reflected on the growing cooperation between Zagreb and Baku:
"The Republic of Croatia attaches great importance to the cordial relations and fruitful cooperation that exist between our two countries."
He noted how shared values have helped deepen bilateral ties and expressed confidence that:
"Building on our shared achievements, the friendship and collaboration between Croatia and Azerbaijan will continue to deepen."
Looking at the global picture, UN Secretary-General António Guterres used the occasion to highlight broader international challenges:
"National celebrations also offer moments to reflect on shared global challenges... That is precisely the spirit of the Pact for the Future."
He pointed to the UN-led effort to strengthen multilateralism and said it aims to:
"Advance peace, sustainable development and human rights for all."
