Yerevan authorities delay conversion of school basements into bomb shelters
Yerevan City Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan has said that basements of schools and kindergartens should be cleared of unnecessary and obsolete property.
Sargsyan made the statement on August 22 during a working meeting in the Yerevan Mayor's Office, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Armenian media.
The mayor previously instructed the relevant structures to take control of the conversion of the basements of the capital’s schools and kindergartens into bomb shelters.
However, the provided report on the work done did not satisfy Sargsyan, who said that the responsible authorities did not check on the progress of the task’s implementation.
“You didn’t follow up on anything, and therefore nothing was done. This problem came to light during the war. Then we were looking for bomb shelters and hiding places. Eventually, it had been revealed that the property of the 1970s, which turned out to be unusable, was never written off. For some reason, they decided to place this property in the basements,” Sargsyan complained, urging to solve the problem as soon as possible.
