Zelenskyy cancels Orthodox Christmas date in Ukraine
Christmas celebrations in Ukraine have been officially moved to December 25.
The relevant law was signed by the country's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as evidenced by data from the website of the Verkhovna Rada, Caliber.Az reports.
Until now, the residents of the country celebrated the main Christian holiday on January 7, as it is done in Russia. However, earlier the head of state introduced a bill to Parliament, proposing to abandon this tradition and switch to the New Julian calendar.
"Twenty-eighth of July 2023. Returned with a signature from the President of Ukraine", the document published on the website of the Verkhovna Rada states.
At the same time, the deputies themselves voted for the transfer of the holiday back on July 14. They also adopted a bill on changing the date of celebrations in honour of the Day of Ukrainian Statehood and the Day of Defenders of Ukraine.
