Zelenskyy: Russian forces suffered over 35,000 casualties in April
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said Russian forces lost more than 35,000 personnel killed or seriously wounded during April, as Ukrainian troops continued to repel sustained attacks along the front line.
In his latest address on Telegram, Zelenskyy said Ukraine’s defence forces had maintained a “stable level” of protection of their positions and were achieving consistent results against Russian assaults.
“Russia continues to suffer significant monthly losses in manpower, and in April alone, more than 35,000 were killed and seriously wounded. Each strike is clearly verified,” he said, according to his statement.
He also pointed to an increase in medium-range strikes carried out by Ukrainian forces. “At present, strikes at ranges over 20 kilometres are twice as frequent as in March and four times higher compared with February. This trend will continue to grow — it is a priority direction,” he said.
Zelenskyy further highlighted the expanding use of unmanned ground systems, saying more than 10,200 logistics and evacuation missions using robotic systems were carried out in April. He added that Ukraine needed to significantly scale up production and deployment.
“April delivered substantial results, but across the scale of the front, we need much more of this work,” he said, calling for increased procurement and supply of robotic systems to the armed forces. He added that May should deliver higher performance targets set for the military and the defence ministry.
The Ukrainian president also reiterated plans to expand domestic production of drones and robotic systems, thanking service members and international partners for their continued support.
