Zourabichvili strolls past election protest on Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi
Salome Zourabichvili, the President of Georgia, arrived in Tbilisi and visited Rustaveli Avenue, the site of the Georgian Parliament building, amid ongoing elections for a new head of state.
Zourabichvili visibly walked along Rustaveli Avenue, where a protest against the presidential elections was taking place, Caliber.Az reports via TASS.
The protesters greeted her with shouts of "Salome, Salome." She did not stop at the protest nor make any statements, merely walking down a street that crosses Rustaveli Avenue, likely heading towards the Presidential Palace.
Later, Zourabichvili wrote on her Facebook page in Georgian, with grammatical errors, "Sobriety and discernment."
To recall, on December 14, Georgia is electing its sixth president. For the first time, the head of state will not be chosen by direct vote, but by a college of electors consisting of 300 members. This body includes 150 members of the Georgian Parliament, 21 members of the Supreme Council of Adjara, 20 representatives from the Supreme Council of Abkhazia, and 109 deputies from local municipal councils in various regions of the country.
The only presidential candidate is Mikheil Kavelashvili, a former parliamentarian and footballer, nominated by the ruling party, "Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia."
