Azerbaijani President: Peace treaty with Armenia can be signed by end of this year

“In case of goodwill on the part of Armenia, a peace treaty can be signed by the end of the year. As time passes, our initiatives are moving forward not so easily, although the first meeting of foreign ministers did not bring concrete results, but I think that this is a positive step. I think that if a decision is made in the near future, the working groups of the two countries will start working on the text of the peace treaty, and we will be able to reach an agreement by the end of the year.”

This was stated by President Ilham Aliyev, in an interview with Azerbaijani TV channels in Prague, according to Caliber.Az. 

The president said that no one - neither the Armenian side nor the Council of Europe - has any questions regarding the five principles proclaimed by the Azerbaijani side.

“Today, during a meeting with the French president, I saw that these five principles are being accepted. This is natural, because we have not invented anything new. These principles are based on relations between states which aimed at normalization of relations,” Aliyev said.
