Azerbaijani colonel from Emergency Ministry takes helm as ICDO secretary general
Colonel Erguj Kalantarli, Head of the International Relations Department of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations, has been elected Secretary General of the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO).
The Ministry told Caliber.Az that the election took place during the 3rd extraordinary session of the ICDO General Assembly held in Baku. Candidates from four member countries — Azerbaijan, Serbia, Burkina Faso, and Tunisia — contested the position.
Expressing gratitude for the trust placed in him, Colonel Kalantarli pledged to carry out his duties at the highest level.
The International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO) is an intergovernmental organization dedicated to promoting civil protection, disaster risk reduction, and emergency management worldwide. Established in 1931, the ICDO brings together member states to coordinate efforts in protecting civilians and infrastructure from natural and man-made disasters.
Azerbaijan has been an active member of the ICDO, participating in various initiatives aimed at enhancing disaster preparedness and response.
