Erdogan: Türkiye to eliminate threat of terrorism in northern Syria
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that Türkiye will eliminate the threat of terrorism emanating from northern Syria.
“If the threat of terrorism comes from northern Syria, we will eliminate it there,” President Erdogan said, TASS reports.
He implied Türkiye's plans to conduct a ground operation in northern Syria against the forces of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) based there, which Ankara has declared a terrorist one.
President Erdogan noted that Türkiye is taking the necessary measures in Idlib and Kobane cities and intends to continue doing so.
The Turkish leader noted earlier that the goal of the operation that Türkiye plans to carry out in the adjacent territory is to complete the creation of a 30-kilometre security line.
According to the Turkish media, the new operation will allow Ankara to ensure control over the 600-kilometre section of the border with Syria, as well as to minimise terrorist threats emanating from the adjacent territory.
