Lionel Messi demands €600 million to play in Saudi Arabia

14 March 2023 19:47

Lionel Messi has reportedly made significant financial demands to sign for Al Hilal. The Saudi club could find it difficult to line up.

After the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo, Saudi Arabia is on a little cloud. Al Hilal, a Saudi club, would now make it a priority to sign Lionel Messi. The Argentinian’s arrival could reignite the rivalry between the two former Ballons d’Or. However, not everything goes as planned, UK Daily reports.

According to information reported by El Chiringuito de Jugones, the operation looks complicated. Al-Hilal would do anything to recruit Lionel Messi, but the Argentinian would have demanded the astronomical sum of 600 million euros to end his career in Europe. An amount that could chill any suitor. The operation could land the striker a huge final contract but it seems unlikely that Al-Hilal will put that much money on the table.

Can PSG extend it?

Remember that Lionel Messi is coming to the end of his contract with PSG. An extension in the Parisian club is not excluded. However, the Qatari club must comply with financial fair play and find new sources of income to balance its budget. The former Barcelonan’s current salary exceeds 41 million euros, which makes it difficult to balance the Parisian budget. Moreover, Kylian Mbappé and Neymar also receive very high salaries.

Lionel Messi joined PSG in the summer of 2021 after failing to reach an agreement for his extension with Barca. The 35-year-old is having a great season despite failing to qualify his team for the Champions League quarter-finals. Indeed, the Parisian club was eliminated a few days ago by Bayern Munich in the round of 16 of the competition.

Since signing, Lionel Messi has scored 29 goals and made 32 assists in 65 appearances for Paris.
