Azerbaijani wrestlers scoop three European gold medals in Bucharest
The youth championship of Europe (U-23) in sports wrestling is being held in Bucharest (Romania) from March 13-19.
As reported by Azerisport.Com, on the third day of the tournament on March 15, Greco-Roman wrestlers of the Azerbaijan national team won three medals.
Elmir Aliyev (60 kg), Gurban Gurbanov (72 kg), and Murad Ahmadiev (97 kg) have won gold medals. Hasan Mammadli (67 kg) lost the fight for third place, and Ismail Rzaev (82 kg) lost the match in the consolation round for bronze. Khasai Hasanly (77 kg) won silver on the same day.
Meanwhile, Azerbaijani female wrestlers Shahana Nazarova (50 kg), Elnura Mammadova (55 kg), and Nigar Mirzazade (68 kg) also squared off against their rivals. They could not reach the semi-finals, but opponents Mammadova and Mirzazade reached the final, meaning the Azerbaijani athletes got a chance to win bronze in the consolation matches.
