Azerbaijani athletes to attend European Weightlifting Championships in Armenia
Armenian Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Karen Giloyan has said that Armenia had received preliminary applications from six Azerbaijani athletes for participation in the European Weightlifting Championships to be held in Yerevan.
“The applications for participation have been already accepted, the final list of participants will be presented later,” Giloyan noted, Caliber.Az reports citing the Armenian media.
In turn, Chief of Staff at the Office of the Armenian Prime Minister Arayik Harutyunyan noted that 536 athletes from 42 countries are on the preliminary list of participants.
“When submitting an application for any major event, the country guarantees the free participation of athletes and their safety. We are ready to receive all athletes who will participate in the European Weightlifting Championships in Yerevan,” he said.
Yerevan will host the 2023 European Weightlifting Championships from April 15 through April 23. The championships' results will be rated for the weightlifting competitions in 2024 in the following categories: men - 61 kg, 73 kg, 89 kg, 102 kg and +102 kg, women - 49 kg, 59 kg, 71 kg, 81 kg and +81 kg.
