Kazakh president, UK’s secretary of state discuss bilateral cooperation in various spheres
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has received UK’s Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs James Cleverly, who is in Astana for an official visit.
During the meeting, the possibilities of further strengthening bilateral cooperation in the political, commercial, economic, investment, and humanitarian fields were discussed, Social Bites reports citing the Kazakh presidential press service.
Welcoming Cleverly, President Tokayev noted that the UK secretary of state’s visit would “give a significant impetus to the further strengthening of mutual cooperation” between Kazakhstan and the UK.
The president also invited Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to visit Kazakhstan.
In turn, Cleverly drew attention to the positive dynamics of contacts between Astana and London. He said that Kazakhstan is the UK’s main trading partner in the region and that the UK appreciates the country’s ongoing political and tax reforms.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited Astana in February 2023. He met with President Tokayev and Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tileuberdi.
