Iranian FM reiterates peaceful intentions at conference in Qatar No Plans for Nuclear Weapons

11 May 2025 10:09

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has reaffirmed that Iran has no intention of developing nuclear weapons.

Speaking at the opening session of the Fourth Arab-Iranian Dialogue Conference in Doha, Araghchi emphasised Tehran’s commitment to diplomatic engagement. “We are sincerely continuing negotiations with the US, China, Europe, and Russia,” he said, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

Reaffirming Iran’s longstanding position, Araghchi reiterated that the country has no intention of developing nuclear weapons. However, he underlined that Iran will not relinquish its right to pursue peaceful nuclear energy, a key point of contention in the ongoing international dialogue. The foreign minister’s arrival in Qatar follows a recent visit to Saudi Arabia, part of a broader regional diplomatic effort.

The latest round of indirect negotiations between Iran and the US is set to take place in Oman on May 11.

On the Palestinian issue, the foreign minister emphasised that Palestine remains the foremost concern for the Islamic world. He stated that Iran cannot remain silent in the face of the ongoing crimes and massacres committed daily against the Palestinian people, particularly in Gaza.

He described the Israeli regime as the most significant threat to regional stability. He also highlighted the grave consequences of Israel’s policies of forced displacement and systematic violence, urging Islamic nations to take a stand and fulfill their responsibility to support the Palestinian people in their struggle for legitimate rights.

Regarding the Iran-Gulf relations, the Iranian foreign minister welcomed the positive momentum seen over the past year, notably the historic joint meeting between Iran and the Gulf Cooperation Council—the first in forty years—which he hailed as a meaningful step toward trust-building and regional collaboration.

He advocated for enhanced economic and trade partnerships among regional countries, especially in sectors such as energy, transportation, and technology, reaffirming Iran’s readiness to participate in any initiative aimed at fostering regional integration on the basis of mutual benefit.
