Azerbaijani chess player starts Grand Prix with victory
On May 16, in Nicosia (Cyprus), the fourth stage of the FIDE Women's Grand Prix began.
Azerbaijani chess player Gunay Mammadzadeh is taking part in the tournament.
As azerisport.com reports, the Grand Prix features Nana Dzagnidze, Bella Khotenashvili (both Georgia), Alexandra Kosteniuk (Switzerland), Tan Zhongyi (China), Bibisara Assaubaeva (Kazakhstan), Harika Dronovalli (India), Alexandra Goryachkina, Ekaterina Lahno, Polina Shuvalova (all FIDE), Dinara Wagner (Germany) and Olivia Kiolbasa (Poland).
During the four stages of the Grand Prix, the participants gain rating points, and the best two chess players at the end of the entire series will book a ticket to the Candidates Tournament. In Nicosia, the last stage is taking place, after which the final alignment will be determined.
For Mammadzade, this is the first Grand Prix tournament in the current cycle.
