Turkish President Erdogan to visit Azerbaijan

09 June 2023 14:54

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will pay a visit to Azerbaijan on June 13.

The Turkish president will once again start his foreign visits for the new presidential term by staying true to traditions: the president will visit the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on June 12, and Azerbaijan on June 13, Yeni Şafak reports.

During the visit to Azerbaijan, Erdogan will meet with President Ilham Aliyev and the sides will convey messages of peace and stability in the Caucasus.

Türkiye went to polls for the parliamentary and presidential vote on May 14, as well as a historic runoff on May 28. Erdogan has remained Türkiye’s 12th ruling president and become the 13th in the line of elected leaders. The people have directly elected the Turkish president since the constitutional amendment was made in 2007.

More than 64.1 million Turkish citizens were registered to vote, including over 1.92 million who earlier cast their ballots at overseas polling stations. The voter turnout was around 85 per cent on the May 28 election.

On May 14, no candidate crossed the 50 per cent threshold in the first round, triggering the presidential runoff, although Erdogan took the lead with 49.52 per cent. On that day, Erdogan’s electoral alliance also won a majority of seats in parliament.
