Baku committed to peace agenda, Armenia must fulfill its obligations Remarks by Azerbaijani president's assistant
Azerbaijan supports the normalization of relations with Armenia, but official Yerevan must also fulfil its obligations.
The statement came on September 19 from the Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration, Hikmet Hajiyev.
In an interview with Al Jazeera, Hajiyev recalled that Azerbaijan initiated negotiations on a peace agreement with Armenia.
“Azerbaijan supports the peace agenda and the early signing of a peace treaty with Armenia," he said, per Report.
At the same time, Hajiyev noted that Armenia must also fulfil its obligations.
“First, [Armenia must] withdraw all military forces from the territories of Azerbaijan, and also stop financing the illegal puppet regime,” he said.
Earlier, Hajiyev told Al Jazeera that Baku had launched “local but limited counter-terrorism measures” aimed at striking military targets.
He said while Baku was using high-precision weapons, “collateral damage” was likely unavoidable as civilians were being used as “human shields” by the formations of the Armenian army in the Garabagh region of Azerbaijan.
