Kirby: West won't give up on Russian oil price cap

Western countries are not going to give up their attempts to limit the price cap for oil products exported by Russia on the world market, despite the fact that such efforts have been reportedly unsuccessful recently.

John Kirby, coordinator for strategic communications in the White House National Security Council made the remarks at a regular online briefing for journalists, TASS reports.

"We still believe that the price cap is a useful and viable tool. And, if there is a need, steps will be taken to [adjust it]. We have talked about it with allies and partners. So no, there is no sense that the price ceiling as a tool will disappear, I have nothing to say today about any changes," the White House spokesperson said.

"Remember, the whole idea was not to remove Russian oil from the market. The idea was to minimise the revenues [of Russia's budget from such exports]," Kirby said.
