MP: Azerbaijan's calls for peace in region remain unanswered

    POLITICS  05 December 2023 - 19:16

Co-chairman of the Turkish-Azerbaijani inter-parliamentary friendship group, MP Shamil Ayrim has said that having gained the victory in Karabakh, Azerbaijan appealed to the whole world that these lands belong to it and that it is working for peace in the region.

Ayrim, representing the ruling Justice and Development Party in the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, made these remarks during a speech at the International Conference “Ensuring the safe and dignified return of Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia: Global context and just solution", Trend reports.

“Having gained the victory in Karabakh, Azerbaijan appealed to the whole world that these lands belong to it and that it is working for peace in the region However, Azerbaijan's calls for peace remain unanswered. Western Azerbaijanis must return to their lands safely. The international community must support this process. This just struggle of Western Azerbaijanis must be conveyed to the whole world. It is their right to live on their land,” he noted.

Ayrim also emphasised that throughout history, Azerbaijanis have suffered much in this region.

“Azerbaijanis were subjected to genocide, their historical and cultural monuments were destroyed. Everyone knows this. Azerbaijan has already liberated its lands from occupation. I will do my best for Azerbaijan’s fair fight. We convey to the whole world that Azerbaijan is a strong country today rather than it was 30 years ago,” he added.

The international conference on “Ensuring the safe and dignified return of Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia: Global context and a just solution” was held in Baku. More than 100 guests from 30 countries are taking part in the event.

The conference will continue in the form of panel discussions. Well-known international experts and socio-political figures are taking part and discussing such issues as the expulsion of Azerbaijanis from Armenia, the problem of resettlement in the international arena, the issue of return in international law, difficulties and success in the field of return in practice, the situation in this sphere in various regions.
