EU ambassador: Azerbaijani gas to serve for Serbia's economic development, energy security

The European Union (EU) is very pleased that with the opening of the Serbia-Bulgaria interconnector Serbia has gained access to energy resources from alternative sources, in this case gas from Azerbaijan.

EU Ambassador to Serbia Emanuele Jofre made the remarks after the launch ceremony of the Serbia-Bulgaria gas interconnector in the Serbian city of Nis, according to Report.

"This will serve the development of the Serbian economy. This project is a strategic initiative not only for Serbia but also for the EU," he said, adding that access to Azeri and other energy resources makes Serbia energy-independent and secure. Everything we do in the energy sector is aimed at ensuring Serbia's energy security. Azerbaijan is undoubtedly a reliable partner of the EU in this matter. In recent years, we have been intensifying supplies from Azerbaijan. This partnership is very important. We will continue our cooperation to ensure the energy security of the EU," he said.
