Azerbaijani FM briefs Iraqi president about landmine threats in liberated lands PHOTO
On May 7, Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid met with Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov during his official visit to Iraq, where Bayramov briefed the president on Azerbaijan’s post-conflict reconstruction efforts in the South Caucasus and its initiatives to combat landmine threats in the liberated territories.
The meeting also underscored the growing partnership between the two nations, highlighting their shared goals of enhancing bilateral relations across multiple sectors, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told Caliber.Az.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the current level of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iraq, acknowledging their robust and friendly ties. They discussed the state of bilateral relations and explored future prospects for expanding cooperation in areas such as politics, trade, economics, energy, investment, education, culture, and tourism. Bayramov emphasised the importance of high-level visits and continuous political dialogue, which he believes will serve as a strong foundation for advancing collaboration in various fields. Both parties agreed on the need to boost trade turnover, encourage mutual investments, strengthen business contacts, and further develop tourism links.
These initiatives were recognised as key factors for fostering continued growth in bilateral relations. In addition, the two leaders discussed their joint efforts in international platforms, expressing satisfaction with their cooperation within organisations such as the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement, and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. They reiterated their commitment to supporting one another on these global platforms.
Bayramov also highlighted Azerbaijan’s broader peace agenda, which continues to be a priority for the country. President Rashid recalled his positive meetings with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, noting their discussions at the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku and the World Economic Forum in Davos. He emphasised the significance of these high-level exchanges and extended his warm greetings to President Aliyev. The meeting concluded with both leaders reiterating the importance of further strengthening the friendly and mutually beneficial relationship between Azerbaijan and Iraq, founded on mutual respect and shared values.
