EU’s rep declares his right to criticise Israeli government’s decisions

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell has said that many people think that the impunity with which the Israeli government is now acting is unacceptable.

“Many people think that the impunity with which the Israeli government is now acting is unacceptable. I failed to approve the proposal to punish aggressive settlers,” he said in an interview with the Spanish El Diario newspaper, TASS reports.

Borrell noted that Israel's parliament voted that it would "not accept any imposition" from outside for a two-state solution to the Palestinian issue.

“The government of [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu does not accept any criticism or nuance, no matter where it comes from. You will be immediately accused of anti-Semitism. I declare my right to criticise the decisions of the Israeli government without being considered an anti-Semite,” he emphasised.

“Of course, the international imposition [of a two-state solution to the conflict] must come from the entire international community, including the US. Although it is not their intention, a US veto in the UN Security Council makes Netanyahu more powerful,” he added.
