Political analyst: Armenia speaks ultimatum language with Russia

Political scientist David Karapetyan has expressed his disagreement with the Armenian leadership's attitude towards Russia in an interview with Armenian media.

"Armenia is changing its vector, making a foreign policy U-turn towards the West, towards the collective West, this is not new. The same authorities are talking about it, trying to gain the trust of the West and making anti-Russian statements. If we look at the example of Ukraine and Georgia, we have no right to talk to such a close ally in the language of ultimatums, there is diplomacy that can smooth out sharp edges," he said, according to Caliber.Az.

"As for whether there are other countries that are ready to maintain friendly relations with Armenia, we have friendly relations with many countries. There are both diplomatically confirmed and good-neighbourly and multi-vector relations. When we talk about military-political relations, and in this context we mean France, I have repeatedly said that an agreement has been signed with France on military cooperation, on the import of weapons, i.e. buying and selling, nothing more. There is no question whatsoever of the establishment of military-political relations, much less of allied relations. To answer your question directly, French troops will not come to fight for Armenia's territorial integrity and border inviolability. The same applies to Iran. Another thing is that if we are going to establish allied relations with Iran, we have such a good opportunity and such a chance to establish military-political allied relations with Iran, which are being discussed to this day, but they are not becoming a reality.

In addition to this, I have serious doubts about the real guarantees that the West is offering. No geopolitical centre can guarantee Armenia. Nothing is going to happen, nobody is going to protect us instead of us. The geopolitical centres will do nothing but warnings and appeals if there is open aggression against Armenia," the political analyst said.
