Kazakhstan announces austerity measures to deal with floods

In connection with large-scale floods, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev decided to introduce a regime of austerity of public funds and direct them to help those affected by the rampant disaster.

As TASS reports, the press service of the head of state informed about this following the meeting of the leader of the republic with residents of the Kostanay region.

“The President announced that he had decided to introduce a regime of austerity of public funds in order to send them to citizens. He also assured that all victims will be provided with the necessary assistance,” the text says.

Tokayev noted that the most important thing is the compensation that will be paid. “Moreover, those who have lost their housing or need repairs will be allocated funds. Whoever wants to move into apartments, we will buy and provide apartments. For those who want to stay where they are, but under no circumstances should they stay in dangerous places, we will build standard houses for those people. There is a design for such houses. These houses will be built en masse throughout the summer and into winter. “I have set a task for the government to ensure that construction is started in the coming summer months, as well as in the fall, and the consequences of the disaster are completely eliminated,” he explained.

According to him, major entrepreneurs of the country will be assigned to each region in order to overcome the consequences of floods. In addition, the head of state announced that he would cancel the decision and prohibit the removal of the saiga population, which are symbols of the Kazakh steppe.
