Political analyst: Good relations with Türkiye to be favourable for Armenia

Armenian political analyst Areg Kochinyan has said that the settlement of the Armenia-Türkiye relations and the opening of borders should be considered in the context of security.

Kochinyan made these remarks for the Armenian journalists, commenting on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s statement regarding the settlement of the Armenia-Türkiye relations, Caliber.Az reports.

“I don’t know whether President Erdogan’s demand was formulated in the negotiation process or whether it’s just a public element, I hope it’s a public one. In all cases, one of the requirements of the negotiation process is the settlement of relations with Azerbaijan. Armenia is working in this sphere not only at Türkiye’s request, but also proceeding from its own interests and needs,” the political analyst noted.

“We should continue working in this sphere. We should continue working to increase our own economic potential, security and infrastructure,” he said.

“In other words, having more manageable and good relations with Türkiye means having stable security and less dependence on Russia. This will also bring Armenia out of the infrastructural impasse, when in fact 80 per cent of our borders are closed with Azerbaijan or Türkiye. It will be possible to get out of this situation. Finally, there will be an opportunity to create more stable coexistence in the region,” he added.
