Russian, Syrian leaders discuss situation in Middle East

Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed concerns over the escalating situation in the Middle East, including Syria, during a meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on July 24.

Putin conveyed his interest in understanding Assad’s perspective on the evolving regional dynamics, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.

“I am very interested in your opinion on how the situation in the region as a whole is developing,” Putin stated.

He further lamented, “Unfortunately, it tends to aggravate. This concerns Syria directly.”

The meeting, which coincided with the anniversary of diplomatic relations between Russia and Syria, underscored the longstanding partnership between the two nations. Despite ongoing challenges, Assad highlighted the enduring nature of their bilateral relationship. “In the course of the past decades, our countries have undergone very difficult challenges. These decades have witnessed complex transformation processes within our countries. However, in all these decades, relations between our countries have maintained their trustful level and this is an indicator of the maturity of our peoples,” Assad remarked.

Assad noted that the timing of his visit was significant given the current global and regional events, describing the meeting as crucial for discussing the details of these developments.

“The events that are taking place today in the world as a whole and in the Eurasian region,” he said, underscoring the importance of the discussions with Putin in exploring potential prospects and scenarios for the future.
