Azerbaijan denies OSCE Minsk Group mandate in Azerbaijan-Armenia relations

The OSCE Minsk Group is in the process of self-liquidation and also made a statement about the impossibility of cooperation between its three co-chairman countries for one reason or another, especially amidst the events in Ukraine.

Report informs that these remarks have been made by the Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, Head of the Department of Foreign Policy Affairs of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration, Hikmat Hajiyev.  

Hajiyev said the impossibility of the continuation of the Minsk Group’s activity has been clearly stated by the official representative of one of these countries.

“The statements of the Minsk Group’s co-chairing countries also clarify that the representatives that were sent to the region have other statuses rather than the status of a co-chair,” Hajiyev said. “So, the Minsk Group cannot work in this format.”

According to him, the Azerbaijani side has constantly raised the issue that there is no conflict anymore, the conflict has been resolved, and there is a new course of relations in the region - the Armenia-Azerbaijan relations, and the Minsk Group does not have any mandate in these relations.

“Therefore, the Azerbaijani side has always stated that the Minsk Group should present the roadmap of its further activity,” Hajiyev said. “During the post-war period, the Minsk Group has once again demonstrated that it was unable to provide such a document.”
