Azerbaijan detains officials accused of taking bribes

The officers of the Azerbaijani State Security Service have carried out an operation at the State Customs Committee.

Deputy Head of the Main Customs Department for Energy Resources and Maritime Transport Rashad Babayev and Deputy Head of the Transport Taxes Department Shukur Safarov were detained, according to sabah.az.

An official statement about the operation is expected to be made.

Former director of the Azerterminalcomplex union of the State Customs Committee, Major General Ekhtiram Khalilov, was detained during a special operation conducted by the State Security Service a few days ago.

He is accused of accepting huge bribes and abuse of power. The Sabail District Court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention for Khalilov for a period of four months.
