28 June 2024 15:22
Early June 28 morning, Kazakhstan's Ekibastuz GRES-1, the country's largest power plant, experienced an accident resulting in the shutdown of four out of its eight power units.
The Energy Ministry stated that the incident, which occurred at 5:24 a.m., did not impact the city's power supply, Caliber.Az reports via Kazakh media.
"The technical violation led to the shutdown of power units No. 2, 3, 4, and 7," the ministry disclosed. As a consequence, the plant's electricity generation capacity dropped significantly from 2,080 to 320 megawatts.
"Currently, units No. 2, 4, and 8 are operational, with the plant generating 971 megawatts," the ministry confirmed, adding that efforts are underway to restart the remaining units.
