Airstrikes target tribal PMF sites in northern Iraq
For the first time, an airstrike hit a tribal Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) site in Qayyarah, south of Mosul, Iraqi security sources reported on April 2.
The strike struck the main headquarters of Brigade 58 within the Sabaaween sector in the village of Sultan Abdullah, Shafaq News reports.
Aircraft were reported continuing to patrol the area, though authorities have not yet confirmed casualties or the extent of damage.
The tribal PMF units operate under Iraq’s state-recognized Popular Mobilization Forces, composed of local fighters deployed in regions formerly held by ISIS.
The attack follows another airstrike on the evening of April 1, which targeted a PMF position in Tal Afar, west of Mosul. That strike killed the commander of the commando regiment and three other fighters.
