Al Arabiya: Hamas to send message of readiness to give up power in Gaza, seeks truce with Israel
Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani is expected to deliver messages from Hamas during an upcoming meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump’s Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, according to informed Palestinian sources cited by Al Arabiya/Al Hadath.
The sources indicated that Hamas had informed Qatari officials of its willingness to relinquish governance of the Gaza Strip. The group also expressed readiness to agree to a long-term truce with Israel and to release all remaining Israeli captives as part of a comprehensive agreement to end the ongoing conflict.
Additionally, the Qatari Prime Minister is working to resume indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel regarding the second phase of a potential ceasefire deal in the war-torn enclave.
This development follows comments by Qatar’s chief negotiator, Mohamed al-Khulaifi, who voiced dissatisfaction with the “slow pace of the negotiation process.”
Meanwhile, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to deepen, as Israeli military operations persist. Israel has blocked the entry of trucks and convoys delivering food and medical aid.
To recall, on March 18, Israel resumed ground operations in several parts of Gaza, particularly in the northern and southern areas, while establishing buffer zones. Israeli officials have warned of further escalation unless Hamas agrees to a new ceasefire proposal that includes a 45-day truce in exchange for the release of a portion of the hostages.
Hamas has rejected this proposal, insisting on a complete halt to hostilities and a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza in return for the release of all Israeli captives. The group is currently holding 59 Israeli prisoners, more than half of whom are believed to be dead, according to Israeli military estimates.
