Al Arabiya: Israeli drones drop grenades near UN peacekeepers in Lebanon
On September 3, UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) stated that Israeli drones dropped four grenades near UN peacekeepers, in what the mission described as “one of the most serious attacks” on its personnel since the November ceasefire.
“Yesterday morning, drones of the Israel Defense Forces dropped four grenades near UNIFIL personnel working to clear barriers obstructing access to a UN position,” UNIFIL said, referring to Israeli forces, Caliber.Az reports via Al Arabiya.
“One grenade landed within 20 meters, and three landed roughly 100 meters from UN personnel and vehicles,” the statement added.
UNIFIL noted that Israeli forces had been previously informed about the planned road-clearing operations near the Blue Line southeast of the village of Marwahin.
The UN mission said that creating a threat to peacekeepers’ lives violates UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which underpinned last year’s ceasefire.
