Right-wing party’s co-leader slips in poll of German top politicians
Alice Weidel, co-leader of the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, has seen a drop in her popularity among German politicians, according to a recent poll conducted by the INSA institute.
Weidel, a prominent figure in Germany's opposition bloc and a vocal critic of the current government's immigration and EU policies, fell four places in the weekly ranking of the country’s 20 most popular political figures. She moved from 13th to 17th position, indicating a noticeable shift in public sentiment, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
In contrast, Friedrich Merz, the Chancellor-elect and leader of the centre-right Christian Democratic Union (CDU), has gained momentum in the latest poll. Merz climbed from 11th to 9th place, reflecting growing support as he prepares to take on the country’s top executive role.
Earlier, Weidel accused Friedrich Merz and the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) of escalating the conflict in Ukraine. She described the coalition’s actions as “extremely dangerous.”
