Amazon to offer Ozempic pill with same-day delivery across US
Amazon said on Thursday, May 7, that its pharmacy business will begin stocking Ozempic in pill form at its kiosks and will offer same-day delivery of the medication, as per Reuters.
Developed by Novo Nordisk, Ozempic uses the active ingredient semaglutide to help control blood sugar levels in people with Type 2 Diabetes, a condition in which the body either does not produce enough insulin or becomes resistant to it.
Amazon has already been offering Novo Nordisk’s weight-loss drug Wegovy, which is based on the same active ingredient, since January. In April, the company also announced plans to stock Foundayo, a competing weight-loss pill produced by Eli Lilly.
“Amazon Pharmacy continues to provide customers expanded selection and reliable, convenient access to the latest treatments like the Ozempic pill for type 2 diabetes,” said Tanvi Patel. “We are making it easy for customers to get the medication they need to stay healthy.”
Amazon began delivering GLP-1 receptor agonists in 2021, a category of medications widely used to treat diabetes and obesity. The company does not stock injectable versions in kiosks because they require refrigeration, unlike pill forms.
Currently, about half of Amazon’s US customers have access to same-day delivery, while all customers receive medications within four days. The company said it will offer same-day delivery of Ozempic to around 3,000 locations, with plans to expand that coverage to 4,500 by the end of the year.
Customers with a prescription can order the pill through Amazon Pharmacy for $149 per month when paying in cash or through insurance. According to the company, the lowest price with insurance is $25.
Amazon also said that Wegovy in pill form is currently stocked in five kiosks in California, where customers can collect the medication at One Medical locations following a medical appointment.
The kiosks were introduced as part of an effort to reduce barriers to access and lower shipping costs, initially focusing on commonly used medications such as antibiotics, blood pressure treatments, and asthma inhalers.
Patients do not need a One Medical subscription to book an appointment or use the kiosks. However, a one-year subscription to the service costs $199.
The expansion is part of Amazon’s broader investment strategy. The company said it invested more than $4 billion last year in an effort to triple its delivery capabilities across the business in 2026, with a particular focus on improving access in small towns and rural areas.
