Analyst: West backs Azerbaijan’s demands in peace talks with Armenia Including enclave handover
Armenian political scientist Varuzhan Geghamyan has said that Western countries support Azerbaijan's demands in peace talks with Armenia, including changes to Armenia's constitution and the transfer of enclaves.
"When you look at the map, you can see that countries that are allies of the United States but are not part of NATO have a unique geographic location that is of paramount importance to the United States," Geghamyan said in an interview with Armenian media, Caliber.Az reports.
“Also, the South Caucasus is important for the United States, but here the main influence belongs to Türkiye, and nothing more is required.”
If Georgia were needed more, it would have received the status long ago. Georgia is not a member of NATO and the EU and never will be, since these countries are viewed in the West as a special zone surrounding Russia, which should always pose a problem for Russia. They should not be Western territories, which will have to be defended directly and have a direct border with Russia. The same is the case with Ukraine. This country will never become a member of NATO and the EU, because this would mean direct confrontation between the West and Russia. They simply need to create a unique zone of instability around Russia, where they can influence the events taking place in Russia and on the Russian borders.
Therefore, I am confident that Armenia will not receive a similar real proposal that it is a unique US protectorate. Will they say good words? Yes, of course, but at the level of real politics there will be no real support for Armenia, other than propaganda. At the same time, it is worth remembering that the West has only one true ally on our territory, and that is Türkiye, which will always have more weight for the West in this region than any other country.
In addition, I want to say that last year I was in the US Congress to lobby for the “blockade” of Karabakh at the invitation of the Hay Dat office. So, with one of the congressmen, whose name, unfortunately, I don’t remember, but who participated in several special operations in the Middle East, a former military man and current politician, we had a very good conversation, and in the end, he told me one thing: Azerbaijan and Türkiye are of greater value to us than Armenia, and therefore our policies stem from this perception.
As for the negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, when Western countries and US President Joe Biden say that they unconditionally support peace talks between Azerbaijan and Armenia, it means that they support the Azerbaijani agenda, i.e. changing the Constitution of Armenia and handing over the enclaves on their demand," the political analyst said.
