ANAMA official: Reconstruction impossible without mine clearance
22 May 2026 10:52
Since the end of the Karabakh conflict, 425 people have been killed or injured in landmine and explosive incidents, according to Vugar Suleymanov, Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA).
Speaking during a session at the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Suleymanov warned that the danger persists despite the cessation of active military operations, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The chairman stressed that civilians continue to face risks from unexploded ordnance scattered across affected territories, hindering recovery and reconstruction efforts.
"Without mine clearance, it is impossible to begin the process of reconstruction and recovery," Suleymanov said.
