ANAMA: Over 1,200 hectares cleared of mines in Azerbaijan’s liberated lands Video
More than 1,200 hectares of land were cleared of mines and unexploded ordnance between December 15 and 21, the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) said in its weekly update.
During this period, ANAMA teams located and defused 145 anti-personnel mines, 46 anti-tank mines, and 525 pieces of unexploded ordnance across the districts of Tartar, Aghdara, Kalbajar, Aghdam, Khojaly, Khojavand, Lachin, Shusha, Fuzuli, Gubadli, Jabrayil, Gazakh, and Zangilan, as well as in the city of Khankendi, Caliber.Az reports.
The ongoing demining efforts aim to secure the return of displaced persons to these areas and allow for the rebuilding of infrastructure.
Since the end of the 2020 war, landmines in Azerbaijan have caused around 400 deaths or injuries, bringing the total number of victims since the 1990s to over 3,400. A notable portion of those affected are women and children.
