Armenia arrests offenders from ex-president’s movement
The personality of the second participant in the rally of opposition members in Armenia’s Gyumri city, who attacked and beat the elderly, was identified being thirty-two-year-old Arsen Martonyan.
“Martonyan was arrested,” the Armenian Investigative Committee said, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Armenian media.
Earlier, two people, namely, the son of the member of the Armenian parliament from the opposition “Armenia” faction led by ex-president Kocharyan, Dashnaktsutyun party member Gegham Manukyan’s son Taron Manukyan, as well as opposition activist Gor Sargsyan - were arrested as part of a criminal case.
The incident occurred on the Yerevan highway in Armenia’s second-largest city of Gyumri city. A group of young people, getting out of their cars, have reportedly approached the elderly men who were standing at the bus stop and began to beat them.
The preliminary investigation is underway. According to the Investigative Committee, measures are being taken to identify all offenders and prosecute them.
Video footage has been recently gone viral. A group of young people was seen in the footage to beat several people. The incident occurred when protesters headed for Gyumri to participate in a rally. Later, a criminal case was filed in connection with the incident. During the preliminary investigation, personalities of the injured men, aged 74, 56, 82 and 84, were also identified.
