Armenia declines to attend Brussels talks with Azerbaijan Pashinyan's statement
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has alleged that the Brussels format of negotiations with Azerbaijan is ineffective.
He made the remarks this at a press conference on March 14, Caliber.Az reports with reference to the Armenian media.
According to him, active discussions have recently been held within the framework of the Brussels format, including with EU President Charles Michel.
"We have identified a fundamental problem in the Brussels format," Pashinyan said.
"As for EU mediation, there is an obvious fact: meetings in Brussels are not very effective. In all likelihood, the most effective negotiations in the quadrilateral format were held in Prague, which ended with a concrete result," Pashinyan said.
"At the moment, the meeting (in Brussels – ed.) is not planned. But I've never avoided meetings. On the other hand, experience shows that guarantees of the implementation of agreements are needed," Pashinyan said.
US State Department Spokesman Ned Price said at the end of February that Michel invited the Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders to Brussels for another meeting.
