Georgia nominates Tamar Taliashvili as next ambassador to US
The Government of Georgia has formally nominated Tamar Taliashvili for the post of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United States of America.
The nomination has been submitted to Mikheil Kavelashvili, the President of Georgia for approval, according to an official government decree signed by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
The nomination is outlined in the government’s decree, which cites legal provisions from the Constitution of Georgia and the country’s legislation governing the structure and functions of the executive branch. Under the terms of the order, Taliashvili is set to assume the ambassadorial role effective July 10, 2025.
In a related development, a separate decree dated June 9 also signed by Prime Minister Kobakhidze proposes Tamar Taliashvili’s dismissal from her current post as Georgia’s Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe, effective the same date.
Notably, Tamar Taliashvili has already received agrément — the formal diplomatic approval — from the United States. The acceptance, issued during the Trump administration, confirms Washington’s consent to her appointment. The approval reportedly coincided with the resignation of Robin Dunnigan, the former US Ambassador to Georgia.
Tamar Taliashvili, a seasoned diplomat, has held several key positions within Georgia’s foreign service. Her nomination to the post in Washington underscores the strategic importance Georgia places on its relationship with the United States, particularly in areas of political cooperation, defence partnership, and democratic development.
