Armenia invalidates more votes as election dispute deepens VIDEO
Armenia’s Central Election Commission has invalidated the results from another polling station, citing procedural violations, according to a statement from the commission’s press service.
The decision concerns polling station 12/13 in the village of Abovyan, located in the Ararat region’s Artashat community. The results were annulled after it was determined that ballot number 8, representing the National Democratic Pole, was missing from the station, Caliber.Az reports, citing the local media.
Official protocol data show that 809 voters cast ballots at the station. The ruling Civil Contract party secured the majority with 602 votes, while the opposition blocs Armenia and Strong Armenia received 67 and 71 votes, respectively.
The latest decision follows an earlier ruling by the commission, which found that violations at two other polling stations may have significantly affected the outcome. During an extraordinary session, the commission decided to invalidate the results from those stations.
The annulments have fueled political tensions, with supporters of the Prosperous Armenia party staging a protest outside the Central Election Commission building. The party says the invalidation of results at two polling stations effectively prevents it from entering parliament.
“I officially rule out any compromise and cooperation with Nikol Pashinyan and ‘Civil Contract’. We can have only one form of cooperation with Pashinyan — discussing the terms of his resignation,” said Suren Surenyants, a parliamentary candidate from Prosperous Armenia and leader of the Democratic Alternative party.
Surenyants added that broader opposition participation in the protest was not essential, noting that other groups had already delivered what he described as an adequate response a day earlier. However, he emphasised the importance of maintaining unity in defending electoral rights.
