Armenia strengthens security ties with EU, calls it “most important partner”
Armenia is deepening its relationship with the European Union in the realm of security, with the EU emerging as the country’s most crucial security partner, the country’s Deputy Foreign Minister Paruyr Hovhannisyan said.
Hovhannisyan highlighted that Armenia is actively engaged in dialogue with the EU, emphasizing the recent meetings of the Standing Committee on European Integration, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
“We are discussing new formats in which we should start more active work on defence and security issues,” Hovhannisyan stated, adding that security cooperation is now a central component of Armenia’s growing partnership with the EU.
The deputy minister further elaborated that the EU is a key player in Armenia’s evolving security strategy, with a dedicated chapter on security being integrated into discussions for the first time as part of the broader partnership framework.
"The European Union is becoming Armenia's most important security partner. That is why the agenda of the new partnership, being discussed for the first time, includes a substantial focus on security," he said.
Hovhannisyan also revealed that Armenia has submitted a second application for funding from the European Peace Facility, seeking an additional $10 million to bolster its security initiatives.
