Armenian minister says road reopening with Azerbaijan to involve working groups
Armenia’s Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, David Khudatyan, has said that agreements to reopen road links with Azerbaijan include the formation of dedicated working groups.
Speaking to reporters on August 14, Khudatyan noted that these groups would provide further details on the process, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
His comments came in response to a question about how control would be exercised on the so-called “Trump Route” if the project goes ahead.
The “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP), commonly known as the “Trump Route,” is a newly established transit corridor connecting mainland Azerbaijan with its exclave, Nakhchivan, through the Zangezur in southern Armenia.
The corridor stretches roughly 43 kilometres across Armenian territory, which remains under Armenia’s sovereignty and jurisdiction.
The initiative emerged following a meeting at the White House on 8–9 August 2025, where Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met with U.S. President Donald Trump.
The leaders signed a joint declaration outlining plans for the corridor as part of a broader effort to restore regional connectivity, enhance infrastructure, and lay the groundwork for lasting peace.
