Armenian MP questions "disappearance" of millions of drams allocated for country's defence
"Armenia" faction MP Gegham Manukyan spoke on the defence spending of the 2024 draft budget at the parliamentary session.
"In the first nine months of 2023, the implementation of capital expenditures of the defence sector of Armenia's budget was 55 per cent. Only 124.6 billion drams out of the planned 226.6 billion drams were spent, although unprecedented funding was announced last year," he said, according to Caliber.Az.
"Last year's budget stipulated that Armenian Armed Forces servicemen should appear in new uniforms for 2024, but this will not happen, as no contest was held.
Let me remind you that Ararat Mirzoyan said that there are logistical problems with the acquisition and import of weapons. There is a logistical problem with the increase of defence capacity. All these issues were discussed in the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence and Security Affairs, but I can't talk about it. Where do the billions of drams allocated for defence go if such issues are not solved?" said Gegham Manukyan.
It should be noted that today the US dollar costs a little more than 403 drams.
