Armenian ombudsman questions detention of teen accused of targeting Pashinyan
Armenia’s Human Rights Defender, Anahit Manasyan, has expressed concern over the arrest of 18-year-old David Minasyan, who allegedly attempted to strike Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
Manasyan stated that representatives from her office, acting on her instructions, have already met with the young man, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
At the same time, she emphasised that the incident must be thoroughly and comprehensively examined, including the possible use of force against Minasyan by a member of the prime minister’s security detail.
The ombudsperson also noted that she has submitted official requests seeking clarification and will provide a legal assessment after reviewing the responses.
David Minasyan, a school student who attempted to strike the Armenian prime minister following a liturgy on March 29, has been placed in pre-trial detention for two months by court decision.
