Armenian PM briefs Russian president on Washington talks, regional agreements

11 August 2025 15:20

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has informed Russian President Vladimir Putin of the outcomes of high-level negotiations recently held in Washington, DC.

The Armenian government’s press service confirmed the communication between the two leaders, noting that Pashinyan provided a detailed account of discussions that took place on August 8 in the US capital, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

“The Prime Minister presented to the Russian President the results of the negotiations held on August 8 in the US capital Washington,” the statement said, highlighting several key developments.

Among the most notable was the initialing of the agreement on peace and the establishment of interstate relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, a milestone that signals continued efforts to normalize ties following years of tension and conflict between the two nations.

Pashinyan also informed Putin about a joint Armenian-Azerbaijani appeal to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) regarding the formal dissolution of the Minsk Group mechanisms.

Additionally, the two leaders discussed the unblocking of regional transportation and communication routes, a longstanding issue tied to post-conflict reconstruction and economic integration. According to the statement, this initiative is being pursued “within the framework of the principles of territorial integrity, sovereignty, jurisdiction of countries and on the basis of reciprocity.”

The briefing also touched on a new initiative called the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP), a project mentioned in the official communication but not elaborated upon in detail.

To recall, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and US President Donal Trump met in Washington on August 8. The trilateral meeting saw the initialing of the agreement on peace and the establishment of interstate relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, President of US Donald Trump, and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan also signed a Joint Declaration concerning the meeting between the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia in Washington.
