Armenian PM highlights peace with Azerbaijan, pushes for closer Türkiye ties
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, during his official visit to Poland, highlighted the peace established between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the ongoing normalisation of relations with Türkiye.
Addressing diplomats, foreign ambassadors, and think tank representatives at the Institute of International Relations, Pashinyan emphasised that the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace framework is based on the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
He noted that the peace process reached its peak on August 8 with the signing of the Washington Declaration on peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which was initiated and facilitated by US President Donald Trump.
According to Pashinyan, without Trump’s direct involvement and initiative, the peace process would have remained uncertain, and the US president’s participation was crucial in securing regional stability.
Pashinyan also discussed the normalisation of Armenian-Turkish relations, noting that sentiments in the region are changing.
"There is no tension, and we hope to see tangible progress in Armenian-Turkish relations. I have met with President Erdoğan several times. My first bilateral working visit to Türkiye took place in June last year. We have established a very positive dialogue, but at the same time, the situation is now mature enough to move toward practical steps,” he stated.
